One person arrested after tossing injured dog into dumpster in Florida

FLORIDA — A man has been arrested after deputies say he threw an injured dog into a dumpster behind a Kissimmee business.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded Saturday to reports of a dog in distress behind a business at 1076 Cypress Parkway. An employee who was taking out trash heard the dog crying and called authorities.

When deputies arrived, they found a small dog suffering from severe injuries. The dog was taken to a veterinarian but had to be euthanized because of a severe skull fracture.

Investigators say surveillance video showed Victor Manuel Carrion-Flores removing the dog from a pickup truck, placing it in a box and throwing it into a dumpster.

The dog, a 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix named Max, had reportedly escaped from Carrion-Flores’ home and was later found injured. Carrion-Flores told deputies he was too busy to deal with the dog and believed it would eventually die from its injuries.

Deputies say he denied harming the dog but failed to seek medical care for it. Carrion-Flores is charged with aggravated animal cruelty causing excessive pain and death, a third-degree felony.
