OHIO — A Dunkirk woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after deputies responded to a report of a woman slumped over the wheel of a running vehicle at a Dollar General store.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Dollar General on U.S. 68 shortly after 3 p.m. after a woman was seen slouched over the steering wheel of a running car.

Deputies identified the woman as Heather McGinnis, 39, of Dunkirk. Authorities said McGinnis appeared to be staggering, unable to stand properly, and had difficulty holding items, leading deputies to believe she was under the influence of an unknown substance.

McGinnis refused to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest. Deputies said she resisted while being handcuffed by pulling away, throwing herself to the ground and thrashing.

During a search, deputies reported that a needle with an orange cap fell from her pants, and another needle was found in her other pant leg. A blue pill identified as Viagra and a blue glass bottle were also recovered.

McGinnis was taken to the Logan County Jail. During the transport, deputies said she admitted to having a bag of marijuana.

At the jail, deputies recovered two additional baggies from her person.

One contained 21.75 grams of a white powder McGinnis reportedly identified as cocaine, and the other contained a gray powder she said was absinthe. Jail staff also discovered a piece of a plastic baggie containing Xanax hidden under her dentures.

McGinnis was booked into the Logan County Jail on charges of illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility, possession of cocaine, operating a vehicle under the influence and resisting arrest.
