Thousands without power in Indiana

INDIANA — More than 2,500 homes and businesses across Indiana are without electricity Sunday evening, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the latest update, 2,514 customers were reported without power statewide out of more than 3.2 million customers tracked. That represents about 0.08% of electricity customers in Indiana.

Lake County reported the largest number of outages, with 2,406 customers without power. The county was also the hardest hit by percentage, with about 1.58% of customers affected.

Smaller outages were reported in several other counties, including Porter County with 57 customers without power, Starke County with 15, and Delaware County with 14.

The majority of outages were tied to Northern Indiana Public Service Company, which reported 2,467 customers without electricity out of approximately 468,000 customers served.

Additional smaller outages were reported among customers served by Kankakee Valley REMC, Indiana Michigan Power, Clark County REMC and Duke Energy.

Statewide, Indiana ranked seventh in the nation for the total number of customers without power Sunday evening. Utility companies continue to monitor outages and work to restore service where needed.
