
VIRGINIA — Thousands of homes and businesses across Virginia are without electricity as of Sunday morning, according to the latest power outage data.
A total of 4,589 customers are reported without power across the state. That represents about 0.11% of the 4,067,516 electric customers currently being tracked in Virginia.
Virginia currently has the fifth-highest number of power outages in the United States and ranks eighth nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.
Among the state’s 132 counties and independent cities, Fairfax County reported the largest number of outages, with 4,463 customers without electricity. Fairfax is also the hardest hit by percentage, with about 1.01% of customers in the county affected.
Several other areas reported smaller numbers of outages. Roanoke City had 60 customers without power, followed by Gloucester County with 43. Warren County reported five outages, while Frederick County and the city of Hopewell each reported three. The cities of Danville and Alexandria each reported two customers without electricity.
Outage data from 22 utilities across Virginia is currently being tracked. Dominion Energy reported the largest number of customers without power, with 4,515 outages, and also has the highest percentage of customers affected at approximately 0.17%.
Utility crews continue to work to restore service. The cause of the outages was not immediately known.
