MARYLAND — Two men were arrested late Thursday night after police responded to a report of a person waving a handgun near a Metro bus shelter in Greenbelt, Maryland, according to authorities.
Greenbelt police said the incident began around 11:30 p.m. when Metro officials reported an armed individual near the bus shelter.
Responding officers located a man matching the description of the suspect along with another man at the shelter. Police said officers gave both individuals verbal commands, and one man complied.
However, the second man, who matched the description of the armed individual, refused to cooperate and ignored officers’ commands, according to police.
Authorities said the man then began reaching for what officers believed was a gun. Officers used a Taser to subdue the suspect and take him into custody.
Police recovered a handgun at the scene. A background check revealed the man had prior handgun violations, officials said.
The second man was also arrested after officers discovered he had an outstanding warrant.
The incident remains under investigation.
