
SOUTH CAROLINA — A pedestrian was killed early Friday morning in a crash in Orangeburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the crash happened around 12:50 a.m. on U.S. Highway 301 near Dempsey Road. Investigators reported that a 2018 Mazda SUV traveling south on the highway struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway.
The pedestrian died as a result of the collision, officials said. The driver of the Mazda was the vehicle’s only occupant and was not injured in the crash.
Officials have not yet released the name of the person who was killed. The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office is expected to identify the victim once family members have been notified.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Authorities said the incident remains a developing story, and more information may be released as the investigation continues.
