Two people arrested following drug bust in Louisiana

LOUISIANA — Two people were arrested Wednesday after Baton Rouge police say officers discovered a large quantity of marijuana during a traffic stop.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Jerome Johnson and Romello Carter were stopped by officers on Wednesday. During the stop, police conducted an investigation that led to the discovery of approximately 18.4 pounds of marijuana and four doses of hydrocodone.

Authorities said Carter was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faces charges of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance.

Johnson was also arrested and booked on a charge of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance.

Police said Johnson has several prior arrests, including felony theft, monetary instrument abuse, illegal transmission of monetary funds, bank fraud, domestic abuse battery, damage to property, resisting an officer, and battery of a dating partner.

No additional details about the traffic stop or investigation were immediately released.
