OHIO — Several people were rescued overnight after heavy rainfall caused rising water levels and flooding in parts of Butler County, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the department’s Emergency Response Services Team worked with the Morgan Township Fire Department to assist residents and respond to multiple flooding incidents. Crews were called to help people whose vehicles became stranded in high water across the community.
Authorities said flooding problems were largely tied to Dry Fork Creek, which caused issues throughout Morgan Township. Several homes were affected along Okeana, Drewsburg and Church streets.
Officials also reported several stranded vehicles in areas including Race Street and Alert New London.
Emergency crews conducted several rescues as they responded to the incidents overnight.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to use caution when encountering flooded roadways. Officials urge motorists to never drive through standing water and to follow the safety message, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” by finding an alternate route when water covers a road.
Authorities also warn residents to stay away from flooded creeks, streams and rivers, noting that swift-moving water can be deeper and more dangerous than it appears. Walking through floodwaters is also discouraged due to potential hidden debris, strong currents and contaminated water.
Photos from some of the rescue calls were later shared by the sheriff’s office on social media Thursday.
