INDIANA — Officials with the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation say additional security measures are in place at Schmucker Middle School after a reported threat circulated on social media.

According to school officials, the threat was reported on Snapchat and was directed at Schmucker Middle School. In response, Penn-Harris-Madison Schools notified families in a letter and announced that extra law enforcement officers would be present on campus Wednesday.

District officials said the additional security presence is a precaution intended to help ensure the safety of students and staff while the situation is being investigated.

Penn-Harris-Madison Schools also reminded families that the Safe School Helpline is available as a confidential way for students or community members to report concerns.

School officials said they will provide families with updates about the investigation as soon as more information becomes available.
