KENTUCKY — A Lancaster man was killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash involving a Boyle County sheriff’s deputy, according to the Kentucky State Police.

The crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. on March 3 at the intersection of Hustonville Road and West Shelby Street in Boyle County.

Kentucky State Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Boyle County Deputy Zach King was traveling northbound and attempting to make a left turn onto West Shelby Street. As King was turning through the intersection, authorities said Michael Mingey, 27, of Lancaster, was traveling southbound and disregarded a traffic control device before striking the deputy’s vehicle.

Mingey was transported to a hospital following the crash but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to state police.

Deputy King was also taken to a hospital with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Kentucky State Police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
