OHIO — A man was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff in a Dayton neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
According to a Montgomery County Regional Dispatch sergeant, Dayton police were dispatched around 3:51 a.m. to the 250 block of Sandhurst Drive on reports of a man inside a home who was believed to be suicidal.
When officers arrived, they learned there were other occupants inside the residence. Police were able to safely remove those individuals from the home.
Responding crews reported seeing the man with a weapon. After conducting a criminal history check, officers determined the man had prior convictions and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. SWAT teams were called to the scene once authorities confirmed his criminal history.
The standoff lasted approximately four to five hours before the man exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities said the man is expected to be charged with having weapons under disability, and additional charges could be pending. Officials also confirmed that a search warrant was issued in connection with the incident.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including Dayton Police patrol officers, SWAT teams, hostage negotiation crews and unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) operators.
No injuries were reported as a result of the standoff.
