FLORIDA — All lanes of Interstate 75 northbound in Hillsborough County were shut down Tuesday morning following a deadly crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers first reported the crash shortly after 6 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75, south of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard near Thonotosassa. Initial reports indicated the crash involved injuries, but authorities confirmed around 6:40 a.m. that the crash was fatal.
Traffic cameras showed significant backups in the area as emergency crews responded to the scene. Details about how many vehicles were involved or the identity of the person killed have not yet been released.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the roadway remained closed. The crash remains under investigation.
