Two people arrested following drug bust in Alabama

ALABAMA — A narcotics investigation in Cherokee County resulted in the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of two people Monday in Sand Rock, authorities said.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and investigators, assisted by the Leesburg Police Department, conducted a search at a home on County Road 50.

Sheriff Jeff Shaver said investigators located methamphetamine, other illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the residence.

As a result of the search, two Leesburg residents were arrested.

Jonathan Robert Buford, 56, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tracy Chatham Mallard, 56, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sheriff Shaver thanked the Leesburg Police Department for its assistance during the operation.
