
ALABAMA — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Monday afternoon at an apartment complex in Auburn.
According to the Auburn Police Department, officers responded around 2:18 p.m. on March 2, 2026, to a report of shots fired in the 500 block of Shelton Mill Road. When officers arrived, they located a man inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional for medical treatment. His condition has not been released.
As a precaution, nearby schools were placed in a secure state. That measure has since been lifted after investigators determined the suspect fled the area in a vehicle.
Police remain on scene and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area until further notice.
