FLORIDA — A Sarasota man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Manatee County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of 53rd Avenue West and 20th Street West.
Investigators reported that a Ford Mustang was traveling west on 53rd Avenue West in the outside lane and was approaching a red traffic signal at the intersection. At the same time, a Ford F-150 pickup truck was heading south on 20th Street West in the left turn lane with a green traffic signal.
Authorities said the pickup attempted to make a left turn onto 53rd Avenue West when the Mustang drove through the red light and struck the front left side of the truck.
The passenger in the pickup, a 53-year-old Sarasota man, suffered critical injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
The 19-year-old Bradenton man driving the Mustang and the 38-year-old Bradenton man driving the pickup both sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
