FLORIDA — A driver was killed early Monday morning after crashing into a light pole at a Starbucks in Jacksonville’s Lakewood neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened when a GMC Denali was traveling westbound on University Boulevard and went through the intersection at San Jose Boulevard. Authorities said the vehicle ran off the road, went over a curb and entered the Starbucks parking lot, where it struck a light pole.
After hitting the pole, the vehicle burst into flames, investigators said.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office said the crash marks the 41st traffic fatality in Duval County this year. The incident remains under investigation.
