NORTH CAROLINA — More than 100 grams of fentanyl were seized and two people were arrested following a three-week narcotics investigation in Havelock, according to the Havelock Police Department.

Police said the investigation focused on drug distribution within the city and included controlled purchases of trafficking-level quantities of fentanyl from Joshua Cahoon of Havelock.

On Feb. 25, officers conducted surveillance at Cahoon’s residence. During the operation, law enforcement stopped a vehicle that had been seen leaving the home.

K-9 Freddy was deployed during the traffic stop and alerted officers to the presence of narcotics, police said. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of approximately 4.58 grams of fentanyl.

The driver, Andrew Foster of Havelock, was arrested and charged with trafficking in opium or heroin, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping or selling controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Later that day, officers continued surveillance and conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Cahoon. K-9 Freddy again alerted to narcotics in the vehicle, according to police.

Authorities said a search uncovered 65.58 grams of fentanyl. Cahoon was arrested and charged with multiple counts of trafficking in opium or heroin, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping or selling controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In total, investigators said 108.63 grams of fentanyl were seized during the investigation.

Both Cahoon and Foster are being held at the Craven County Jail without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Havelock Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s website.
