One person injured after being struck by vehicle in Pennsylvania

PENNSYLVANIA — A person in a wheelchair was seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Lancaster County, according to police.

Officers with the East Hempfield Township Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Columbia Avenue near Eisenhower Boulevard at 6:22 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian crash.

Investigators said a 30-year-old resident in a wheelchair was hit by a vehicle traveling in the westbound lane.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. On Friday, police said the victim is expected to survive.

The 64-year-old driver involved in the crash was not injured.

A portion of Columbia Avenue was closed for about five hours while authorities investigated the scene.
