Thousands without power in Alabama

ALABAMA — Power outages are affecting thousands of customers across Alabama as of Thursday evening.

According to the latest data, 4,344 homes and businesses are currently without electricity statewide. That represents approximately 0.17% of the 2,604,614 customers tracked across Alabama. The figures were last updated about seven minutes prior to the report.

Alabama ranks third in the nation for the total number of outages and also ranks third for the percentage of customers affected.

Out of Alabama’s 67 counties, Jefferson County has the highest number of reported outages, with 2,792 customers without power. Jefferson is also the hardest-hit county by percentage, with 0.84% of its customers affected.

Other counties reporting outages include Jackson (757), Cullman (269), Talladega (233), Blount (100), Pickens (58), Tuscaloosa (45) and Morgan (26).

Statewide, 32 utilities are being tracked. Alabama Power reports the largest number of customers without service, totaling 3,240 outages. Meanwhile, Scottsboro Electric Power Board has the highest percentage of customers affected, with 9.23% without power.

Utility crews are working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible.
