VIRGINIA — A 43-year-old man was struck and killed Wednesday night while walking along Nine Mile Road in Henrico County.
According to the Henrico County Division of Police, officers were dispatched around 9:20 p.m. on Feb. 25 after a 911 caller reported a “suspicious situation” involving a man walking in the middle of Nine Mile Road near Masonic Lane.
While officers were en route, the caller reported that the man had been hit by a vehicle. When police arrived at the scene, they located a man suffering from what were described as obvious signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later identified the victim as Torianno Lakeith Callahan, 43, of Henrico County.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Callahan was walking in the roadway on Nine Mile Road when he was struck by a pickup truck. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Police said they do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors on the part of the driver. However, investigators believe Callahan may have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.
Following the incident, police also reminded residents of the county’s “Watch Out Ahead Henrico,” or “WOAH,” pedestrian safety initiative.
