OHIO — A 40-year-old Perry Township man wanted on felony charges was taken into custody Tuesday after police say he fled from officers in an SUV, driving through neighborhood yards in Stark County.
According to the Massillon Police Department, detectives attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on Nelson White shortly after 3 p.m. on Feb. 24 at a home in the 200 block of Elmford Avenue SW.
Police said as officers tried to take White into custody, he drove off in an SUV, leading authorities on a brief pursuit. The chase was called off after officers lost sight of the vehicle.
While searching the area, officers responded to a reported hit-skip crash where witnesses described the fleeing SUV. A short time later, the vehicle was found unoccupied in the 2800 block of Kipling Avenue NW in Jackson Township.
Police deployed a K-9 unit and drone team to search nearby neighborhoods. White was located and taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. in the 7400 block of Hills and Dales Road NW.
He was transported to the Stark County Jail and booked on an outstanding felony warrant for menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony, and assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. Authorities said additional charges are pending.
