One person dead, three injured following vehicle crash in Indiana

INDIANA — A 74-year-old woman was killed and three others, including a 7-year-old child, were injured in a crash Wednesday evening in Monroe County.

The crash was reported around 6:15 p.m. Feb. 26 near South Rockport Road and West Stansifer Court, about five miles southwest of downtown Bloomington.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation found that a northbound Subaru crossed the center line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia. A third vehicle, a Toyota, was also involved in the crash.

The driver of the Kia, identified as a 74-year-old Bloomington woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the driver of the Subaru, a 48-year-old Bloomington man, was transported to a local hospital. A 7-year-old passenger in the Subaru was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, a 58-year-old Bloomington man, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The roadway was closed for several hours while deputies investigated the scene but has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
