Measurable snowfall possible in parts of Illinois next week

ILLINOIS — Another winter storm could bring accumulating snow to parts of Illinois early next week, according to forecasters.

The system is expected to develop over the weekend and move across the Midwest on Monday into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

While it remains several days away and details are still uncertain, meteorologists say the storm has the potential to produce a broader swath of snowfall than some recent quick-moving systems.

Forecast models continue to show differences in the exact track and snowfall totals. Some projections suggest heavier snow could fall across portions of central and northern Illinois, while other models shift the heaviest accumulation farther east.

If the system trends west, areas including Chicago and surrounding communities could see more significant snowfall. If it tracks farther east, totals across Illinois would likely be lighter.

If current timing holds, snow could begin moving into parts of the state by Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday.

Unlike the recent powerful nor’easter that affected the East Coast, this storm is not expected to bring prolonged blizzard conditions or extreme winds. However, accumulating snow could still lead to slick roads and hazardous travel, especially during morning and evening commutes.

Forecasters caution that the storm’s path and snowfall amounts could change as new data becomes available. Illinois residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts through the weekend and prepare for potential travel disruptions early next week.
