Measurable snowfall possible in parts of Virginia next week

VIRGINIA — Another winter storm could bring accumulating snow to parts of Virginia early next week, as a new system takes shape over the weekend.

Forecasters say the storm is expected to move into the Mid-Atlantic by Monday, with the potential to spread snow across portions of the Commonwealth. While the system is still several days away and details remain uncertain, meteorologists indicate it could produce a wider area of snowfall than some recent quick-moving systems.

Forecast models differ on the exact track and snowfall amounts. Some projections suggest heavier snow could fall across western and central Virginia, including areas along the Interstate 81 corridor and into the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Other models bring more significant snowfall closer to central and eastern Virginia, which could impact the Richmond area and possibly communities along the Interstate 95 corridor.

If the current timeline holds, snow could begin moving into parts of Virginia by Monday afternoon and continue into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Unlike the recent powerful nor’easter that affected portions of the Northeast, this system is not expected to produce prolonged blizzard conditions or extreme winds. However, accumulating snow could still create slick roads and hazardous travel conditions, especially during peak commuting hours.

Forecasters caution that the storm track and snowfall totals could shift as newer data becomes available. Virginians are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts in the coming days and prepare for potential travel disruptions.
