NORTH CAROLINA — Several school systems in western North Carolina have announced schedule changes for Tuesday, February 24, 2026, due to winter weather and hazardous road conditions.
Alleghany County Schools, which serves Alleghany County and the town of Sparta, will operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday morning. The district has also designated Employee Code C for staff.
Avery County Schools will move to a remote learning day, with students completing assignments virtually rather than attending in person.
Cherokee Central Schools will also operate on a two-hour delay Tuesday. However, school officials noted that buses will not travel on icy roads, and families should plan accordingly.
The adjustments are being made to ensure the safety of students, staff and bus drivers as cold temperatures and lingering snow continue to impact road conditions. Parents are encouraged to check official school communications for any additional updates.
