INDIANA — A Hammond man is facing a felony charge after authorities say he sold drugs to a man in Westfield who later died from an apparent overdose.

According to the Westfield Police Department, officers and the Westfield Fire Department responded to the 500 block of Fayette Drive, near Oak Ridge Road and East 169th Street, on Jan. 27 for a report of an unconscious man who was not breathing. Despite lifesaving efforts at the scene, the man was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the death was suspected to be the result of a drug overdose. During the course of the investigation, the Westfield Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit determined the drugs had been purchased in Chicago and identified the alleged dealer as 49-year-old Kenneth Guy, of Hammond.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office filed an arrest warrant charging Guy with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.

On Feb. 17, officers located Guy at a residence in the 7300 block of Van Buren Avenue in Hammond. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said investigators recovered multiple cell phones, drug packaging materials, suspected narcotics and approximately $1,500 in cash from the home. Authorities allege one of the cell phones was used to facilitate the narcotics transaction connected to the case.

Guy was booked into the Lake County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Hamilton County.
