
OHIO — A 20-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning following a police standoff at a duplex on Wood Street.
According to police, officers began receiving calls about shots fired around 4:39 a.m. When they arrived at the residence, they reported hearing additional gunshots and a woman screaming.
Authorities said a male suspect was seen running into an apartment and turning off the lights. A standoff ensued after the occupants refused to open the door.
The Niles Special Response Team was activated, and officers obtained a search warrant. Police also contacted the suspect’s mother, who came to the scene. A woman inside the residence later exited and surrendered to officers.
After deploying a drone and establishing phone contact with the suspect, police said the man peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody.
Investigators reported finding an AR-15 rifle and multiple shell casings inside the home. Police allege the suspect, identified as Xavier Trevon Arrington, was intoxicated and began firing randomly outside following a domestic disturbance.
Arrington was transported to the Trumbull County Jail. He is charged with inducing panic and discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises, both felonies.
The female occupant was interviewed and later released without charges.
