TEXAS — Two juveniles were arrested Saturday night after a high-speed vehicle pursuit in Jasper County ended in a crash and a foot chase, according to authorities.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said deputies assisted Kirbyville police officers in the pursuit, which began around 10 p.m. The suspects were driving west on FM 82 at high speeds before continuing onto County Road 408.
Authorities said the suspects lost control of the vehicle on County Road 408 and crashed into a tree. Both fled the scene on foot.
One suspect was taken into custody at the crash site. Law enforcement officers then searched a nearby wooded area for the second suspect, using a K-9 unit and a sheriff’s office drone.
According to the sheriff’s office, the second suspect was eventually located after backtracking through the area and becoming caught in a briar patch. He began calling for help near the drone pilot’s position and was taken into custody by the drone operator and a Kirbyville police officer.
Officials said the vehicle involved in the chase had been reported stolen out of Houston.
The driver was transported to a hospital for treatment. The second suspect was arrested and later released to juvenile probation authorities.
