OHIO — A semi-truck driver from New York was hospitalized after crashing into an abandoned box truck in Warren County early Sunday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 6:15 a.m. on Interstate 71 north of State Route 123.
Investigators determined that a box truck had been left on the right side of the road after becoming disabled due to a mechanical issue.
Authorities said the semi driver, identified as 64-year-old Mohamed Ould Baba, drove onto the right shoulder and struck the disabled box truck. The impact pushed the box truck off the roadway and caused it to overturn.
Baba was taken to a nearby hospital. Troopers did not release details about the extent of his injuries.
The roadway was shut down for several hours while crews cleared the scene but has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
