
ALABAMA — Multiple people were killed Saturday morning when an Amtrak train collided with a vehicle in Theodore, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Bellingrath Road and Peary Road. Officials with the Mobile Police Department said several people inside the vehicle died as a result of the collision.
In an update released at 8:48 a.m., police confirmed that two people who were inside the vehicle struck by the train were pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims and have not said whether additional occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Emergency crews with Mobile Police and Mobile Fire-Rescue responded to the scene. Multiple police vehicles, fire trucks and ambulances were visible in the area as access to Bellingrath Road and the nearby railroad tracks was shut down during the investigation.
Video from the scene showed the train involved was an Amtrak train.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
