Measurable snowfall possible in parts of Pennsylvania Friday

PENNSYLVANIA — A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for several Pennsylvania counties as mixed precipitation is expected to create hazardous travel conditions early Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

The advisory covers Bradford, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northern Wayne, Southern Wayne, Pike, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties from 5 a.m. to noon Friday. Forecasters say the region could see up to one inch of snow and sleet, along with ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch.

Officials warn that the highest ice accumulation is expected on hilltops, while lower elevations may receive slightly less icing. Even light ice buildup could result in slick roads and dangerous travel conditions, especially during the morning commute.

Motorists in cities and communities including Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Milford, Towanda, Tunkhannock and Honesdale are urged to slow down and use caution when traveling.

Transportation officials also remind drivers to adjust speeds based on changing road conditions and to monitor updates on roadway safety as winter weather moves through the region.

Forecasters emphasize that even minor icing can significantly impact bridges, overpasses and untreated surfaces, increasing the risk of accidents during peak travel hours Friday morning.
