Three people arrested after shots fired incident in Georgia results in drug bust

GEORGIA — Three people were arrested after reports of shots fired at a home in Stephens County, Georgia, according to the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies were called to a residence on Skyline Drive in Toccoa at about 12:48 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, following reports of gunfire and a physical altercation. Officers with the Toccoa Police Department also responded to the scene.

Authorities said deputies and officers encountered two men engaged in a physical struggle over a firearm. Law enforcement intervened and brought the situation under control, arresting one of the men while the other was taken to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. The firearm was secured as evidence.

Investigators reported that no gunshot wounds were found, although at least one round had been fired.

After the scene was secured, narcotics investigators began a separate investigation into suspected marijuana at the residence.

During a search, investigators allegedly found about 1.8 pounds of suspected marijuana packaged in bags, three boxes of chocolate bars made with psilocybin, approximately 38 THC vape products and a digital scale.

A 17-year-old identified as Xavier Collins, 21-year-old Jonathon Mayfield and 35-year-old Lateriya Hickman were arrested and taken to the Stephens County Jail.

Mayfield was charged with battery and reckless assault. Collins faces charges including battery, reckless conduct, possession of a firearm during a crime and possession of a handgun by a person under 18. Collins and Hickman were each charged with three counts of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute and seven counts of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance.
