OHIO — A pedestrian died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 75 in central Toledo, according to police.
The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on I-75 between Nebraska and Indiana avenues. Police said the victim, a 38-year-old driver from West Virginia, had first been involved in a single-vehicle crash on northbound I-75.
After the crash, the driver fled the scene on foot, crossed over a concrete barrier to the southbound lanes and was then struck by a southbound commercial vehicle driven by a 43-year-old from Canada, police said.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.
Southbound lanes of I-75 were closed following the incident but have since reopened. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
