NORTH CAROLINA — A Washington man was killed late Wednesday night in a wrong-way crash on U.S. Highway 64/13, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the crash around 11:35 p.m. on Feb. 18 near the 507-mile marker. Preliminary findings indicate that 47-year-old Corey Shaw was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound tractor-trailer hauling potatoes in a fully loaded 53-foot box trailer.
Shaw was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries and was transported to ECU Health in Tarboro for treatment.
The crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
