
ILLINOIS — A 61-year-old motorcyclist has died following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in Springfield, according to authorities.
Police said officers were called to the area of Peoria Road and Sangamon Avenue around 9:45 a.m. for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. When officers arrived, they began providing medical assistance to the motorcyclist.
The man was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said the victim was pronounced dead at 12:25 p.m. shortly after arriving at the hospital.
An autopsy has been scheduled. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said the driver of the passenger vehicle was issued a ticket. The crash remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
