
SOUTH CAROLINA — A 19-year-old high school student was found dead in the road Tuesday night in Spartanburg County, according to the coroner.
Rusty Clevenger said his office was called around 10 p.m. to the intersection of Howard Street and Simuel Road, where deputies discovered Jose Julian Morales-Diaz, 19, of Spartanburg, dead in the roadway.
Morales-Diaz was a student at Dorman High School.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to the scene. Authorities later determined that the Highway Patrol would lead the investigation.
Officials have not released details about what led to Morales-Diaz’s death. An autopsy was scheduled.
