INDIANA — Three people were killed and another was seriously injured in a crash Monday afternoon in Grant County, according to Indiana State Police.

Officers from multiple agencies were dispatched shortly after 12:15 p.m. to County Road 600 South near County Road 1150 East. Preliminary investigation indicates a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, identified as 23-year-old Alexander McGuin of Gas City, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner. Two passengers, 21-year-old James M. Clark Jr. of Dunkirk and 19-year-old Gracelynn N. Daniels of New Castle, were also pronounced dead at the scene.

A fourth passenger, 22-year-old Michael L. Reading of Hartford City, was airlifted to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police said the crash remains under investigation. Investigators believe speed, alcohol and/or narcotics may have been contributing factors.
