FLORIDA — One child is dead and three others are critically injured following a crash involving an all-terrain vehicle and an SUV in Jackson County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred Sunday night near Sandridge Church Road. Troopers said a 9-year-old was driving an ATV with three other children as passengers when the vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming SUV.
Authorities said the SUV driver attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The vehicle skidded forward and struck the left side of the ATV.
All four children were thrown from the ATV as a result of the impact. One child died from injuries sustained in the crash, and the other three were critically injured.
The driver and passenger of the SUV were not injured, officials said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
