TENNESSEE — Three people were injured in two separate shootings in the Whitehaven area Saturday evening, according to Memphis police.
Officers responded to a shooting at the Oakwood Meadows Apartments in the 4500 block of Airways Boulevard, where two people were shot.
Police said a man told officers he was playing a video game with the suspect when the suspect became upset after losing and started a fight. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun. Investigators said the gun discharged during a struggle, striking two people.
One man was found shot behind the apartment building, and another victim was dropped off at Methodist South hospital, police said. The suspect fled the scene on foot.
While officers were investigating that shooting, an officer reported hearing gunshots near East Shelby Drive and Airways Boulevard.
Police found a third victim in the 2200 block of East Shelby Drive suffering from a gunshot wound. The man told officers he was walking toward Airways Boulevard when shots were fired. He said he believed two men in a parking lot were shooting at another man nearby and that he was struck by gunfire in the crossfire.
Police initially said they were working to determine whether the two shootings were connected but later confirmed the Shelby Drive shooting was not related to the apartment incident.
Both shootings remain under investigation.
