OHIO — A driver was arrested Friday afternoon after allegedly striking a police cruiser and nearly hitting an officer while fleeing from authorities during a drug investigation.

The incident began around 12:34 p.m. when officers with the Cincinnati Police Department’s PIVOT unit were conducting a drug investigation in the West End and Over-the-Rhine neighborhoods.

Police attempted to stop a black Chevy Colorado near Dalton and Gest streets, but the driver fled as officers approached.

Authorities deployed a drone unit and, with assistance from a bystander, were able to locate the vehicle. When officers tried to approach the vehicle a second time, the driver again fled, striking a marked police cruiser and nearly hitting an officer, according to police.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Kentucky, where law enforcement on the Kentucky side assisted in stopping the vehicle and arresting the driver.

Gatlin Gillespie, 34, faces charges of driving under the influence, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief and fleeing. No injuries were reported.

The investigation remains ongoing.
