INDIANA — A man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly leading Fort Wayne police on a pursuit through downtown that ended in crashes involving another vehicle and multiple light poles.

Billy Ray Guerrero, 26, is charged with Level 6 felony resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, misdemeanor leaving the scene of a property damage accident and a prior operating while intoxicated conviction.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, an officer spotted Guerrero driving recklessly around 5:30 a.m. on South Clinton Street near East Superior Street. Police said Guerrero ran a red light and nearly collided with other vehicles before the officer attempted a traffic stop.

Instead of stopping, Guerrero allegedly fled, leading officers on a pursuit through the Wells Street Corridor. During the chase, police said he struck another vehicle and hit several light poles.

After several minutes, Guerrero eventually pulled over and surrendered, according to police. Officers reported he showed signs of intoxication. He was given a certified chemical test and later booked into the Allen County Jail.

No additional details about injuries or property damage were immediately released.
