MARYLAND — Afterschool and evening activities were canceled Wednesday at three Howard County high schools as officials investigated a reported threat.
The Howard County Public School System announced that all afternoon and evening activities at Atholton, Guilford Park and Hammond high schools were canceled out of what it described as an abundance of caution.
According to the Howard County Police Department, school officials notified law enforcement after learning of a rumor involving the possibility of a fight between students. School Resource Officers began investigating the situation.
Police said they do not believe there is or was an active threat to any of the schools.
School officials said students who were scheduled to participate in afterschool activities would be sent home according to the departure method listed in Family File for a typical school day. All community programs scheduled at the three schools were also canceled.
The investigation remains ongoing.
