
NORTH CAROLINA — Traffic was backed up for miles Wednesday morning following a serious crash on Interstate 485 in south Charlotte.
According to emergency officials, the crash occurred around 10:30 a.m. on the Interstate 485 Outer Loop near the interchange with Interstate 77, just past the Nations Ford Road bridge.
As of 11 a.m., the outer loop was reduced to one lane as crews worked to clear the scene. The lane closures caused heavy congestion stretching more than two miles.
Medic confirmed that four people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Multiple agencies responded to the crash.
Drivers were urged to seek alternate routes while emergency crews remained on scene. The incident remains under investigation.
