
NORTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating a fatality reported Tuesday afternoon at the Transylvania County Landfill expansion site, according to county officials.
The incident was reported between 3:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. at the landfill expansion, also known as Phase 7 of the Woodruff Landfill, located in Brevard. Officials said the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office and other county personnel responded and remained on scene for several hours conducting the investigation.
County officials said no additional details about the incident or the individual involved were being released as investigators work to notify family members.
The sheriff’s office said it did not expect to release further information Tuesday evening.
As a result of the incident, the county-owned landfill and convenience sites will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
The investigation remains ongoing.
