INDIANA — A pedestrian was killed Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash on the city’s west side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers were called around 8 a.m. to the area of Bridgeport and Rockville roads after receiving a report of a hit-and-run crash involving serious injuries. When police arrived, they found an adult male lying off the shoulder of the roadway.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said the driver involved in the crash left the scene before officers arrived.

IMPD officials said some officers were familiar with the victim, noting he was often seen walking in the area. Police described the incident as having a significant impact on responding officers and the surrounding community.

Investigators said there are few surveillance cameras in the area and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the vehicle involved to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.

The investigation remains ongoing.
