GEORGIA — Two men from Portal and Sylvania have been arrested following an investigation into methamphetamine distribution and thefts in Bulloch County, according to the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s officials said the investigation was conducted by the Crime Suppression Team and the Criminal Investigations Division and focused on William Cody Sparks of Portal. As a result, arrest warrants were obtained for Sparks and Jace Adam Best of Sylvania.
Best was arrested on Jan. 29 at a residence in Screven County with assistance from the Screven County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Bulloch County Jail. Authorities said Sparks fled Bulloch County after Best’s arrest and actively evaded law enforcement.
Investigators learned on Feb. 5 that Sparks would be returning to Bulloch County.
Using the Flock license plate reader system, deputies located the vehicle Sparks was traveling in and conducted a traffic stop. Sparks attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken to the Bulloch County Jail.
Best is charged with sale of methamphetamine and manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, or possessing a controlled substance near a park or housing project.
Sparks faces multiple charges, including attempted trafficking of methamphetamine, sale and possession of methamphetamine, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, obstruction of law enforcement, theft-related offenses, and additional drug- and weapon-related charges.
The investigation remains ongoing.
