ARIZONA — Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order Monday afternoon for residents in a portion of Pima County after a large swarm of bees was reported near a residential area.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, the swarm is located near a home in the 4300 block of South Draper Road, close to West Bopp Road and South Aldon Road. The shelter-in-place order has been issued for nearby homes as a precaution.

Officials advised residents to remain indoors and turn off air conditioning systems until the situation is resolved. A bee removal team was dispatched to the scene and was en route as of 4:45 p.m., authorities said.

No injuries were reported, and officials did not provide an estimated time for when the shelter-in-place order would be lifted.
