PENNSYLVANIA — Two middle school students in Franklin County were taken to the hospital Monday after becoming ill from consuming an unknown substance before school, according to emergency officials and the Tuscarora School District.
Emergency dispatchers said they responded to a reported poisoning. School officials said the incident involved two students at James Buchanan Middle School in Peters Township.
In a statement, the district said the students reported feeling ill and were evaluated by the school nurse after arriving at school.
Out of an abundance of caution, emergency medical services were contacted, and both students were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Superintendent Zachary Kump said there is no indication of a broader health or safety concern and that the incident is not related to the school’s water supply, building, or any environmental issue. District officials said they are cooperating with emergency responders.
No additional details were released due to student health and privacy concerns.
