Wisconsin school briefly placed on lockdown

WISCONSIN — An elementary school in the Rhinelander area was placed on a brief lockdown Monday morning after staff reported hearing a sound they believed may have been gunfire during a recess period.

According to school officials at Crescent School, staff members alerted authorities after hearing the noise. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was immediately notified, and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.

Deputies responded quickly and conducted a thorough search of the school grounds and surrounding area. Authorities reported they found no signs of a shooting, no suspicious activity, and no evidence of any threat. Officials also stated that nearby residents did not report hearing or seeing anything unusual.

After completing the investigation and confirming there was no danger, law enforcement lifted the lockdown approximately 45 minutes later. School officials said students and staff were never in danger, and normal classes and activities resumed immediately following the all-clear.

Administrators thanked students, staff, parents, and law enforcement for their cooperation, emphasizing that the lockdown and response were precautionary measures taken to ensure safety.
