ILLINOIS — A pedestrian was killed late Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 57 in suburban Chicago, according to state police.
The Illinois State Police said the crash occurred just before midnight in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 at the ramp to 147th Street in Harvey. Authorities reported that a black Chevrolet Tahoe struck a pedestrian and then fled the scene.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries. As of Monday morning, the victim had not been identified, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash prompted several temporary road closures during the overnight hours. Around 12:30 a.m., the ramps from I-294 northbound to I-57 northbound and from I-57 northbound to 141st Street were shut down to allow investigators to process the scene. All lanes and ramps were reopened shortly before 4 a.m.
The investigation into the hit-and-run remained ongoing, and authorities had not released information about the driver as of Monday.
